644,769. Corsets and surgical belts. SANDFORD, L. G., and SANDFORD, Ltd., G. Oct. 20, 1948, No. 27219. [Class 141] The girth of corsets, surgical belts and particularly maternity corsets is primarily adjustable by strings 15, 16 threaded through eyeletted busks 5, 10 and 8, 9 sewn to the edges of pleats 14, 13 formed respectively in an inelastic back panel 4 and between the latter and a front panel. The latter comprises inelastic panels 2, 3 which are joined to a central elastic panel 1 having an inelastic backing strip, 21a. A garment of this type is characterized in that further adjustment may be made by opening additional pleats, or darts 21, and 22, 23 which are formed in the panels 2 and 4 respectively by transversely folding back upon itself the material, and securing the fold by sewing or other readily releasable means. The garment is closed by hooks 17 and eyes 18, has suspenders 20, and may be provided with a pair of adjustable shoulder straps.
