Abstract

588,168. Corsets. SMITH, H. L. J., and LA RESISTA CORSET CO. Feb. 1, 1945, No. 2597. [Class 141] A girdle has incorporated therein a band portion of one-way stretch material formed in two parts each extending round the side of the body from centre front to centre back and being higher in the front to constrict the abdomen than at the back where pressure is applied to the buttocks. As shown, each side portion 13 of the garment comprises a central band 13a which is stretchable longtitudinally and passes diagonally from the back. It is of greater elastic strength than the band portions 13b and 13c above and below it. These outer band portions may have one or two way stretch and may be woven integrally with the band 13a or stitched to it. The side portions are secured together by tapes at the centre front seam 14 and the centre back seam 16. A front panel 10 of non-elastic material is stitched at 15 over the portions 13, a somewhat similar panel being applied to the back. To draw the garment into the waist, V-shaped cuts 18 and 20 are made from the top of the side portions, one being closed by a sliding clasp fastener 19 and the other being bound by a tape 21. The upper and lower edges of the garment have elastic binding tape.
