Abstract

644,758. Clothes pegs. LAYTON, A. E. Sept. 29, 1948, No. 25377. [Class 44] A clothes peg comprises a rubber block 1 having a central aperture 5 from which a curved slit 2 extends to the edge of the block. The two beak-like jaws 3, 4, which are formed by the slit 2, are provided on their inner faces with transverse ribs 6 and saw-tooth projections 7 respectively, the jaw 3 being extended to form a curved hook-like projection 3a. On gripping the ribbed side faces 8 between thumb and forefinger, and resting the projection 3a on the line 9, the lower jaw 4 may be forced downwardly to open the jaws. A curved downward movement of the peg then allows the line to rest between a pair of projections 7 whilst being gripped between the jaws. The aperture 5 is tapered inwardly from the opposite faces of the block 1. According to the Provisional Specification, both jaws 3, 4, may be formed with saw tooth projections and the line 9 is engaged in aperture 4 when the peg is in use.
