Abstract
639,708. Clothes pegs. BLACKFRIARS RUBBER CO., Ltd., and MURPHY, J. July 28, 1948, No. 20098. [Class 44] A rubber clothes peg comprising a bifurcated body A whose limbs B are adapted to grip a clothes line is provided with a pair of upwardly divergent portions F, the outer ends of which are joined by a cross bar G. On either pressing the portions F together by means of the roughened or serrated faces H or by gripping the side faces of the cross bar G and pulling outwardly, the peg is similarly deformed in each case and the jaws B are opened. The cross bar G, which is of constant width is shaped as an inverted V or shallow arch the opening E being correspondingly diamond-shaped or elliptical. Pronounced comers are formed at the junctions of the inner faces of the limbs with the periphery of a hole C which terminates the bifurcation. In a modification the limbs B have transversely ribbed faces and the ribs on opposite faces may mate with one another. For convenience of handling, a number of pegs may be joined by an easily severed web, which is formed during moulding or when cutting the pegs from an extruded length of rubber.
