Abstract

644,714. Knitting - machines. HACKETT, G. A. April 22, 1948, No. 11159. Convention date, May 23, 1947. [Class 74 (ii)] A device for detecting faults in a fabric knitted on a warp machine comprises a finger 3 pivoted to a lever 5 which itself is pivoted to the frame 2 of a casing 1. A weight 7 is carried by the lever 5 and urges a pin 8, carried by the finger 3, through a slot in the casing 1 into contact with the fabric F. Two fingers 3 and two levers 7, and associated parts, are mounted in each casing 1 and the fingers extend in opposite directions so that when the casing is reciprocated beneath and across the fabric, for the width or part of the width of the fabric, the finger inclined in the direction of movement detects a gap in the fabric by the pin 8 extending through the gap. Continued movement of the casing causes the finger 3 to swing about its pivot so that its lower end 10 makes contact with a spring 11, incorporated in an electric circuit, to operate a relay which actuates an alarm and stops the machine. Alternatively the alarm may be operated without stopping the machine. The casing 1 is reciprocated by means of a double threaded shaft engaged by a tumbler in a block mounted on the shaft, the block being connected to the casing 1. A cover strip 36 may be associated with each slot to render the device inoperative. A number of devices may be connected together so that each reciprocates across a portion only of the width of the fabric.
