Abstract

638,725. Knitting-machines. MOULDS, B. March 13, 1948, No. 7697. [Class 74 (ii)] A detector for operating a stop motion of a flat machine in the event of a load-up, displaced needle or other obstruction in the needle bed comprises a feeler 7 supporting an element 16, deflection of the feeler 7 releasing, the element 16 to operate the stop motion. The feeler 7 is pivoted at 6 and is in two parts 7a, 8 finely adjustable longitudinally. In one embodiment the feeler is carried on a plate 1 secured to the cam carriage. The element 16 slides in guides 17, 18 on an arm 1b of the plate 1 and has a hooked portion 14 engaging the upper end of the feeler 7. When released by the swinging of the feeler 7, the member 16 falls and pulls on a cord 30 to operate the stop motion. In another embodiment, the plate 1 is flat and the member 16 slides in guides secured to its back. The member 16 carries contacts which, in falling, it brings into engagement with a wire stretching along the needle beds to cause stopping of the machine by making or breaking a circuit. In another form the member 16 may be normally horizontal and pivoted to the upper end of the feeler 7. Movement of the latter causes vertical slots in the member 16 to be engaged by its supports to permit it to fall.
