Abstract

644,688. Heel and sole tips. HILL, Ltd. D., THOMPSON, G. and ELDRIDGE, C. A. July 17, 1948, No. 19247. [Class 17(iii)] A tip for a, sole or heel has a rounded outer edge and a straight inner edge 5 and a relatively thin attaching web 6 which fits into a rebated portion of the top piece 1 under an overlying tongue portion 2 which abuts against the edge 6a of the tip, the wearing faces of the tip and lift being substantially flush. The tip may be metal and the lift of leather and the inner and outer edges of the thickened marginal portion of the tip may be parallel, as shown, or of different curvatures. Nail holes 9 may be provided in the tip with or without means on the tongue 2 to indicate their position when the tip and lift are correctly assembled. Plugs 10 of leather or other pierceable material may fill the holes 9 and this may be done by applying pressure to the assembled lift and tip.
