Abstract

'[Class 38(v)] The casing of a contactor or motor starting switch is adapted for bolted attachment to any one of a series of boxes, the boxes being adapted for the entry of cables and their passage into the casing. Figs. 1 and 2 show one arrangement in which the casing a of the contactor is attached by bolts o to the lid c of a conduit box d. The casing a and lid c have substantially rectangular openings b, b<SP>1</SP>, the opening b<SP>1</SP> having a beaded edge b<SP>2</SP> which engages in the channel of a gasket r disposed in the casing around the opening b to obtain a fluid tight seal. The box d has knock-outs p which may be removed to provide entry apertures for conduits q. The lid c has a removable cover m which has a gasket r' engaged by the beaded edge k' of the lid. This cover m may provide access to fuses or other devices mounted within the box, and it may be provided with one or more lenses for pilot lamps, actuating members for manual switches, or dials for ammeters, Figs. 8 to 13 (not shown). A range of boxes, Figs. 4 to 7, for use in conjunction with standard switch casings comprises a simple conduit box and boxes to contain an isolating switch, an isolating switch and fuses or fuses and other devices. The casing and the boxes may be of increased width so that the casing may contain two or three switches or contactors, Figs. 14 to 17 (not shown).
