Abstract

644,614. Yielding bearing supports. SCOPHONY, Ltd., and TOWNSHEND, .J. H. Oct. 23, 1947, No. 28397. [Class 12 (i)] [Also in Group XIX] The bearings of a dynamic balancing machine are protected by means which constrain a body, during its insertion into the bearings, to motion in a direction inclined both to the vertical and horizontal for at least a part of its travel close to the bearings. A body 14 under test is rotatably mounted in V-shaped half-bearings 16 secured to discs 17, each supported for lateral swinging movement by a metal strip 21. A plate 25, secured to an upright 18 mounted on a base, is arranged on each side of each bearing, the pair of plates associated with each bearing being spaced apart by rods 28. Each of the plates 25 is slotted so that the body under test has to be placed on its bearings in a direction inclined both to the horizontal and to the vertical but the slots are sufficiently large to permit rocking of the bearings when the body is driven through a belt 13 by a motor 10.
