Abstract

644,398. Packing. ROSE BROS. (GAINSBOROUGH), Ltd. Aug. 16, 1947, No. 22834. [Class 94(i)] The open end of a partially filled bag is seized so as to nip portions of opposing sides of the bag together, and then the bag is closed by twisting its open end above the level at which the bag is nipped so as to form a twisted neck 17. The twisted neck is thus prevented from extending below the point at which the bag is nipped and a clear space left between the contents 13 of the bag and the neck. In the example the nipping is done by a pair of gripper arms 14 and the twisting by rotatable twisting members 16 which also flatten the material of the bag fanwise above the neck. The bag may be of transparent heat sealing cellulosic material in which case the neck is sealed by heat and pressure as described in Specification 632,587. Specification 620,277 also is referred to.
