Abstract

644,228. Conveyers. KING, Ltd., G. W., and BURROWS, A. T. C. May 20, 1948, No. 13704. [Classes 78 (i) and 104 (ii)] A conveyer system which comprises a rope or band with which loads to be transported or load-carrying elements are associated and friction drive means for the rope or band including a pair of driving wheels or rollers having tyres or the like of friction material, such as rubber, the wheels or rollers being disposed one at either side of the rope or band in such manner that the tyres or the like exert a grip thereon. Trolleys 11 running on a track 10 of I-section carry frame members between which the rope or band 12 is clamped and to which are pivotally attached load bars 15. The rope or band 12 is driven by two rotatable wheels 16 having inflatable pneumatic surfaces arranged to grip the rope or band. The wheels 16 are driven by a shaft 17 connected to an electric motor 20 through gearing 21. The shaft 17 is journalled in a bearing 18 in a frame 19. To change the direction of the rope, the rope is led round a rotatable pulley 22. The overlapping ends of the rope are clamped together by a screw pressing on a plate on the ropes and contained in a U-frame. The rigid track may be formed of a pair of spaced L- shaped members 30 supported at intervals by brackets 31 on a fixed beam. The rope or band is supported by clevis attachments 32 of L-shape in cross-section, the upper part of which moves on the track. The rope or band is clamped between the two attachments which carry a load-bar 30. Instead of a load-bar a pusher may be mounted to convey a load on a lower track.
