644,220. Load-handling machines. McCOLL, C. P., and STONEHILL FURNITURE, Ltd. April 16, 1948, No. 10649. [Class 78 (iii)] [Also in Group I] A hay-sweep for pivotal mounting in front of a tractor comprises a pair of longitudinal bars 1 passing beneath the tractor and fastened to its rear axle, the bars being hinged at their front ends to the sweep which comprises horizontal tines 11 and braced uprights 23 forming a back, the sweep being connected by cables 32 to power-operated lifting-links 36 at the rear of the tractor. The bars 1 pass through a stirrup 8, fixed to the front axle of the tractor, which allows limited vertical flexure of the bars in the event of obstructions being encountered. The hinge comprises a bolt 22 passed through the forward ends of the bars 1 and through complementary parts on the sweep. The bolt can be removed to detach the sweep from the tractor. The cables 32 are fixed to a cross-bar 14 on the sweep and pass under pulleys 34 at the rear ends of the beams 1. The tines 11 may have metal caps 39.
