Abstract
643,923. Bottling. CHERRY-BURRELL CORPORATION. May 3, 1948, No. 12077. Convention date, Oct. 21, 1947. [Class 125(ii)] Relates to a combined filler and capper for bottles, e.g. milk-bottles. A rectangular support 17 carries four bottles, two each end, accurately positioned by adjustable prongs 44, 45. The support is intermittently swung, manually, through about 180 degrees about a vertical shaft 5 and after being swung is raised and lowered along that shaft by the manual actuation of cams 31 acting on the base 26 of a sleeve 16 which carries the support 17. On raising the sleeve and support, lugs 28 projecting from the sleeve coact, alternately, with stationary guide lugs 41 thereby ensuring that the support has been swung through the correct angle. When the support is in the raised position the two rear bottles register with filling nozzles 65 projecting from the reservoir 4 whilst the two front bottles are located at positions exactly below those occupied by a sealer 15 at the ends of its swinging movement about the shaft 5. The arc of swing of the sealer is defined by lugs 54 projecting therefrom and straddling the stationary arm 9. The initial position of the support 17 and sleeve 16 along the shaft may be adjusted by screw mechanism to deal with bottles of different heights.
