Abstract

643,892. Work-holders. MALKIN & CO., Ltd., F., ABBERLEY, M. W., and' ELLIS, A. G. Nov. 14, 1947, No. 30264. [Class 60] A chuck, more particularly intended for potters' lathes, is designed to hold an article 31 having one end substantially closed and the other end open and has flexible means 21 for forming an airsenled closed cavity within the article and means for exhausting such cavity. An end stop 17 and spring- loaded centreing members 22, 24 are carried on a spindle 15 which is secured to a boss 13 in screw-threaded engagement with a boss 11 on a shaft 10. The sealing member is attached to a support 20 provided with ducts 29 which are connected with air-ex-- hausting means through an axial duct 26. An alternative construction omits the member 22, the end stop acting as a centralizing member. The chuck may be used as a stationary work-holder.
