[Class 124] In a drill bit having one or more cutting edges formed by hard metal inserts, the breadth b of the insert 1 at the periphery is equal to or greater than the height h of the insert at the centre of the bit, and the height of the insert in the longitudinal direction of the bit increases from the periphery to the centre. The breadth of the insert may be equal to or greater than one-third of the diameter of the bit.
