Abstract
642,679. Non - contact - making relays. MINISTER OF SUPPLY. Aug. 11, 1947, No. 22239. [Class 40 (iv)] [Also in Group XL (c)] The Figure shows a magnetically-controlled D.C. amplifier in which oscillator 47 has a very low noise and even harmonic content (see Group XL (c)). Potentiometer 48 is adjusted so that in the absence of a D.C. input at 42 the currents from oscillator 47 balance out and no output appears across the high Q resonant circuit 52 which is tuned to the second harmonic of the oscillator frequency. When a.D.C. input is applied at 42 the ferro-magnetic cores 45, 46 are polarized and second harmonic components produced. These are applied via the transformer 52, 53 and the amplifier 54, which is sharply tuned to the second harmonic frequency, to the phasesensitive detector stage 55 to which an input is also applied from the oscillator 47 via a frequency doubler stage 57 and an amplified D.C. output at terminal 56 is produced which is proportional to the D.C. input at terminals 42.
