639,127. Magnetic amplifiers. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN. Dec. 10; 1946, No. 36434. Convention date, Aug. 14, 1943. [Class 40 (iv)] A carrier oscillation modulated with a signal is used to control the output of an auxiliary oscillator by means of a magnetic amplifier, the output is rectified to provide an amplified form of the original signal and a portion of the output is fed back through a modulator to the input of the amplifier. The frequency of the carrier is preferably high compared with that of the auxiliary oscillator. There are no direct current windings on the amplifier. In one arrangement, Fig. 1, the signal from terminals 1, 2 and a carrier oscillation generated at 4 are fed through a modulator 3 to the input winding 5 of an amplifier. The secondary winding 7, which has no transformer coupling with 5, is connected in series with an auxiliary oscillator 8 and a detector 9. A portion of the detector output is fed back over conductors 12 to the modulator 3. In a carrier wave telephone system, Fig. 2, a modulator carrier is applied to the winding 5. The feed-back circuit includes a modulator 13 and a phaseshifting network 15. An oscillator 14 generates the same frequency as the carrier.
