Abstract
642,564. Couplings for vehicles. A. B. C. COUPLER & ENGINEERING. CO., Ltd., and CURRY, J. B. May 19, 1948, No 13521. [Class 103 (v)] In a vehicle coupling of the kind comprising a coupling pin which must be withdrawn when the vehicles are to be uncoupled, a pivoted coupler operating mechanism is retained in either of the two positions in which it can be set by a toggle acting spring strut. In the embodiment shown the pin b of an automatic coupling is connected to the operating lever d<SP>3</SP> by means of a chain c. The lever may be pivoted about one end d<SP>2</SP>, by means of a handle d<SP>1</SP>, from the uncoupled position shown in full lines to the ready-forcoupling position shown dotted and it is retained in either of these positions by a spring i surrounding a rod f of which one end is pivoted at f<SP>2</SP> to a bracket g on the end of the vehicle and the other end is slidable in a block h pivoted to the lever d<SP>3</SP>.
