Abstract
642,493. Windows; draught excluders. WEATHERSTONE, A. July 6, 1948, No. 18189. [Class 20(iii)] In windows of the type comprising upper and lower sashes 10, 11 with bare sides sliding in guides attached to the frame and with a pair of balancing springs 35, 45, housed in separate channels 9 formed in the guides, the springs are disposed between the base of the channel and the edge of the sash, their upper ends being anchored to the upper part of the guides and their lower ends to the lower part of the sash. On an enlarged head 16 of the central wall 12 of the guide a flexible metal weatherstrip element 17 is screwed with side portions 19 bearing against the glass; the frictional resistance may be adjusted at different points along the length of the element by pressure of a tool T on one or other side of a fulcrum rib 22 so as to bend portion 19 inwardly or outwardly. Each sash has top and bottom rails, the bottom rails having an inverted channel in which is housed the inner end of spring anchoring lugs 34, 43. The lower sash bottom rail has a lifting flange 42.
