[Class 120(ii)] [Also in Groups XVI and XXV] In winding strip material 3 on to tubes, cables &c. 7 from a supply roll 1 having an intercalary band 4 between the turns of strip material on the supply roll, the intercalary band 4 and strip material 3 are separated from each other as they leave the roll, the intercalary band 4 being re-wound on a device 8 rotating with the movement of the strip material and the strip material being directed on to a braked roller 5 so as to regulate its tension. In the modification of Fig. 1, as a frame to which the rolls 1, 5 and 8 are attached is rotated about the cable &c. 7 in the direction of the arrow F, the covering strip 3 drives the roll 5 which, in turn, through the belt 11, drives the take-up roll 8 for the intercalary band. The rolls 5, 8 may be adjustably braked on their spindles by friction pads contacting under adjustable spring-compression. In a further modification, the roll 8 is driven by a belt from a pulley fixed to and rotating with the unwinding roll 1. In a still further modification, the intercalary band is wound-up on a roll 8 spring-urged towards and driven by frictional contact with the unwinding roll 1.
