[Class 78 (i)] [Also in Group XXII] A blank feeding mechanism includes a fixed hopper 15 (Fig. 2), a fixed inclined shoot 18 extending thereinto and feeding the blanks to an operating tool; and a rotatable feeding wheel 20 closing the rear side of the hopper and having a plurality of pockets open towards the hopper to receive the blanks and to deliver them to the shoot upon rotation of the wheel. Hopper feed (Figs. 2, 3).- Screw blanks are fed into fixed hopper 15 and fall down as at 16 into hollow feeding wheel 20. The latter wheel 20 is rotated on shaft 21 from the driving shaft 14 by means of belt 31 (kept taut by adjustable tightener pulley 33), pulley 30, shaft 29, worm 28 and worm-wheel 27; and the wheel lifts the blanks to drop them at 26 into fixed inclined shoot 18. Shoot 18 has side plates 19 which direct the blanks under rotating kicker wheel 38 which knocks aside any non-aligned blanks so that these drop back into hopper 15. Kicker wheel 38 is fixed on shaft 37 which is driven from shaft 29 by belt 35 (which is adjustably tightened) and the kicker wheel feeds the blanks down shoot 18. The shoot 18 is vibrated by hammer 48 which is fixed on bell-crank 42, the latter pivoting at 40 and being vibrated by cam 44 secured on shaft 37 and being restored by spring 45, the shaken blanks being retained in the shoot by cover rail 49 and so sliding down to index wheel 50.
