Abstract

[Class 20(iii)] [Also in Group XXIX] A window is operatively connected to the piston 4 of a fluid motor to which a pressure differential is supplied through a pair of valves 18, Fig. 2, which are operated for the opening and closing window movement respectively, and a valve 34, cooperating with the closing valve 18, is actuated by a member connected to the window, whereby the pressure differential acting on the piston is reduced to retard the window as it approaches the closed position. As shown, a vertically sliding vehicle window 1 is supported from an endless cable 5 passing over pulleys 6 to the piston 4. When the window is nearly closed, a lug 37 on the cable moves a valve finger 38 to cut off the air supply through a pipe 33 to the control member 10 containing the valves 18. In this member, chambers 11, connected respectively to opposite sides of the piston by pipes 14, 15 normally communicate with a suction supply line 9, and are shut cff by the valves 18 from chambers 16 communicating with the atmosphere through pipe 33 and filters 31 and ports 30. The ports may be partly closed by manually adjustable disc valves 27 to control the normal window-operating speed. To operate the window, an electromagnet 24 is energized to lift an associated valve 23 thus allowing air to act on a piston 20 rigidly connected to the corresponding valve 18. The piston then shuts off the suction supply to the pipe 14 or 15 at the same time that the valve 18 lets in the atmosphere to operate the piston 4.
