Abstract

640,684. Jointing by stamping. THOMAS & BALDWINS, Ltd., R., and HAY, A. E. Dec. 24, 1947, No. 34214. [Class 83 (iv)] [Also in Group XVII] A tool for securing a sealing cap 14 over and around the closure 15 of a drum or like container comprises an inner member constituted by a screwed shaft 11, integral with an inverted cup member 12 carrying radially movable steel pegs 17, an outer member in the form of a tubular shaft 21 surrounding the shaft 11 and integral with an inverted cup member 22 surrounding the member 12 and an operating handle 13 threaded on the upper end of the shaft 11 and adapted on rotation in one direction to force down the outer member relatively to the inner member against the action of a spring 26 so that a wedge-shaped surface 23 at the lower edge of the member 22 will press inwardly the pegs 17 and so form in a sealing cap 14 indentations which project inwardly into a groove of the closure opening and so secure the cap in position.
