Abstract

640,653. Fuel injectors. AMERICAN BOSCH CORPORATION. July 18, 1947, No. 19357. Convention date, April 26, 1946. [Class 7(iii)] In a fuel injection device wherein the fuel is fed to an accumulator chamber 19, the upper end of the injector valve 33 is formed as a piston 36 subjected on one side to the pressure of the fuel supplied from a pump through a passage 37 having a branch 38 leading to the chamber 19 through check valves 39, 39a and on the other side to the pressure in the chamber 19. During the pumping stroke the valve 33 is held closed by the pressure on the piston 36 and the force of a spring 34, and fuel flows past the valve 39 and through a groove in valve 39a to charge the chamber 19, the valve 33 being raised to permit fuel from chamber 19 to be injected when the pressure in pipe 37 is released. The injector body 16 is resiliently mounted within a sleeve 3 by a detachable cap 8 and spring 25. A sleeve 20 is clamped to the body 16 to form a cooling chamber, the cooling liquid entering at 11, passing through a passage 21 to a space within a sleeve 18 surrounding the nozzle tip, and escaping 'through passages 22, 12. A space surrounding the sleeves 20, 18 is open to atmosphere to allow gases leaking past the nozzle tip 15 to escape and to prevent coolant leaking into the cylinder.
