Abstract
640,652. Gas burners. HARPERWYMAN CO. July 17, 1947, No. 19166. Convention date, Feb. 12, 1941. [Class 75(i)] A valve for use with gas burners having main and simmer burner sections comprises a hollow rotary valve plug 16, Fig. 2, providing connection between a gas inlet 36 and outlets 44 (not shown), 46 connecting with the simmer and main burner sections, respectively, the simmer burner section outlet 44 communicating with the axial passage 17 in the plug 16 and the main burner section outlet 46 communicating with the plug surface and adapted to be connected with either of two radial plug passages 18, 20, and a branch gas inlet comprising passages 68, 62 adapted to pass only a small quantity of gas, as by control by a valve 56, the plug 16 being adapted in a first or " cut off " position to close both main and branch gas inlets, in a second or "low simmer" position to supply gas only through passages 36, 68, 62, 18 and 17 to the simmer burner section, in a third or " simmer " position to supply gas through passages 36, 18 and 17 to the simmer burner section, and in a fourth or " full on " position to supply gas through passages 36, 20 and 17 to the simmer burner section and through passages 36, 20, 18 and 46 to the main burner section. A small passage 22 is provided in the plug 16 between the passages 18, 20 to provide for a more gradual reduction in the gas supply when the plug is turned from the " full on " to the " simmer " position.
