Abstract

640,512. Clothes driers. LOVELL MANUFACTURING CO. March 11, 1947, No. 6808. Convention date, March 6, 1946. '[Class 34(ii)] A tumbler drier with an electric radiant heater is provided with control means for turning the heater on at the start and automatically turning it off at the end of the drying cycle, and a thermostat responsive to the casing temperature for maintaining the circuit to the driving motor closed after the heater is shut off until the casing has cooled. In the construction shown the drier comprises a perforated drum 3 driven by a motor 4, and having a heater element 7 and suction fan 8. The drying cycle is started by a pushbutton 14 closing contacts which energize the heating element 7. When the casing has warmed up the thermostat 21 closes the circuit to the motor. As the clothes dry the temperature drop of the drying air across the drum decreases and at the required stage a thermostat 23 moves the push button to the open position thus breaking the circuit to the heater. The motor continues to rotate the drum until the temperature drops when the thermostat 21 opens. In a modification the rotation of the drum and blower motor are started simultaneously with the heater. A safety thermostat 17 is provided to break the heater circuit if circulation of air past the heater element is interrupted. Specification 605,574 is referred to.
