Abstract

A peelable coating composition comprises an oil-free amorphous (microcrystalline) petroleum wax and 1.5 per cent to 30 per cent of the composition of a polymer of a straight chain alkylene, e.g. polythene, having an average molecular weight of at least 10,000. Preferably equal amounts of wax and polythene are subdivided into small particles, mixed and heated to 110 DEG C. The swollen mass is hot-worked to form a homogeneous syrup and the remainder of the wax is gradually added with stirring. The composition may be used for melt-coating metal, paper and cheese, and for sealing capped bottles. Powdered graphite, corrosion-inhibitors, e.g. dicyclohexylamine nitrite, dyes, pigments and hydrocarbon or chlorohydrocarbon solvents may be added.
