Abstract

640,367. Diaphragms. ACOUSTIC PRODUCTS, Ltd. May 28, 1947, No. 14239. [Class 40 (iv)] [Also in Group V] An integrally formed loudspeaker diaphragm comprises a cone 5 and a central cylindrical portion which consists of at least two cylindrical sections 9, 10 of successively smaller diameter in the direction of a terminal section 11 which carries a speech coil, the junctions between the adjoining sections and with the cone forming compliances which permit effective highfrequency response of the speech coil. The diaphragm is formed from a felted fibrous blank having a peripheral suspension ring of fabric (Fig. 1, not shown) and is finally shaped by pressing (see Group V), the central cylindrical portion and the adjacent cone surface being impregnated with a thermo-setting plastic material and hardened by heat treatment. The pressing operation reduces the thicknesses of the impregnated parts, suitable dimensions being given. The speech coil leads are threaded through holes 15, 16 to avoid the central suspension member when fitted. Specifications 548,756 and 613,287 are referred to.
