Abstract

640,066. Cycle frames. HENDERSON, J. L. Jan. 15, 1948, No. 1226. [Class 136(iii)] [Also in Group XXII] In a frame for a pedal cycle comprising two frame members 1 each formed by bending a bar into a loop, the frame members 1 are jointed together side by side in spaced relationship by a steering column 7, seat pillar 10 and bridge pieces 19. The joints are made by heat and pressure between the electrodes of a welding machine. The heat and pressure of the electrodes on the tubular members first sinks one tube into the other at the joint just prior to the welding heat being applied. A bottom bracket 11 is welded to the seat tube 10 and nested on a cradle formed by the looped frame members to which it is electrically welded or brazed. The two ends of each looped member 1 are flattened to form lugs 13, 14 which are welded to a plate 15 receiving the rear axle. Alternatively, as in Fig. 6, the ends of the loops are butted together and welded to axle supporting plates 18.
