Abstract

639,805. Storage bins. PARKER, Ltd., F., and PARKER, F. W. Nov. 4, 1947, No. 29395. [Class 20 (i)] A storage bin has the lower edges 6, Fig. 1, of its converging side walls 2 spaced from a trough 8 to provide an outlet for water draining from the stored material. The trough 8 which extends the length of the bin, is slightly inclined and provided with discharge piping 10. The material e.g. stone or gravel, is discharged through funnel doors 11, Fig. 4, secured to the trough 8 and having upper walls 14 projecting upwardly into the bin to prevent the water passing therethrough. In a modified form for storing sand the side walls 151, Figs. 5, 6 (not shown), have gaps 17 leading into ducts 16 and provided with adjustable weir plates 18 over the top of which water in the trough must flow to reach the ducts 16. This prevents sand carried to the trough by the water reaching the ducts. Alternatively the trough may be arranged above a drain gutter, with the side walls of the trough themselves acting as a weir.
