Abstract

639,773. Knitting-machines. STIBBE & CO., Ltd., G., STIBBE, E. V., and PALMER, G. Aug. 6, 1946, No. 23293. [Class 74 (ii)] In a two-feeder circular knitting-machine a jaw 2 coacts with a jaw 1 to form a trapper for a yarn or yarns from one feeder, and with a plate 3 to form a second trapper for a yarn or yarns from the other feeder. The jaw 1 is pivoted at 6 to a lug 7 on the plate, and from it depends a bifurcated lug 9 to which the jaw 2 is pivoted at 8. Pressure on the tail of the jaw 1, exerted through a lever 16 and adjustable screw 20 on a link 20, first swings both jaws, against a tension spring 11, to open the lower trapper, and then rotates the jaw 1 against a compression spring 10, to open the upper trapper. Each jaw is mitred or rounded at one end to facilitate entrance of the yarns. The trappers remain closed as the ingoing yarn is pulled out. A catch or shoulder 15 may be provided on the jaw 1 to retain yarn in the upper trapper when yarn is pulled out from the lower trapper in knitting from one feeder only. A recess in the plate 3 holds a pad of resilient material and the lower edge of jaw 1 is faced therewith. Coacting pivoted and fixed scissor elements 21, 22, common to both trappers, are pressed together by a plate spring 24 and are operated conjointly with the trappers, by the link 18. An incline 27 on an element 26 guides withdrawn yarns into the cutter. Slots 32, 33 in the plate 3 receive a main yarn and a splicing yarn during circular knitting, in the formation of Cuban heels, foot bottoms and other spliced areas, to prevent twisting or entanglement of the yarns.
