Abstract
638,453. Photographic diazotype processes. GENERAL ANILINE & FILM CORPORATION. Dec. 29, 1947, No. 34475. Convention date, Dec. 20, 1945. [Class 98 (ii)] An azo-coupling component for incorporation in a photographic diazotype or diazosulphonate sensitizing solution or in a developing solution therefor is phloroglucide (2 : 4 : 6 : 31 : 5<SP>1</SP>-diphenyl) or an ester, ether, or salt thereof. The ester may be a formate, acetate, propionate, butyrate, benzoate, naphthionate, or anthraniliate, the ether a methyl, ethyl, propyl, butyl, amyl, hexyl, phenyl, benzyl, or naphthyl ether, and the salt a sodium, potassium, calcium, barium, magnesium, or copper salt. The coupling component may be substituted by COOH, S0 3 H, N0 2 , NH 2 , alkoxy, aryloxy, or benzyl groups or by Cl atoms, but at least one nuclear position must be unsubstituted. The support may be paper, a cellulose or cellulose ester or resin film, glass, textile material, a gelatin-coated surface, or metal. In examples : (1) paper is successively coated with an ethanol solution of phloroglucide and an aqueous solution of the zinc chloride double salt of p-diethylaminobenzenediazonium chloride, citric acid, and thiourea, and the exposed material is developed with ammonia vapour ; (2) as (1) using naphthalene- 2-diazo-1-oxide-5-sulphonic acid ; (3) cellulose acetate foil or paper are coated with a solution containing phloroglucide or phloroglucide acetate, maleic acid, p-diethylaminobenzenediazonium borofluoride, formic acid, cellulose acetate-butyrate, and acetone ; (4) paper is coated with an aqueous solution of the zinc chloride double salt of 4-benzoylamino-2 : 5- diethoxybenzenediazonium chloride, citric acid, and thiourea, and after exposure using ultraviolet light is developed with an aqueoussodium hydroxide solution of phloroglucide ; and (5) paper is coated with an aqueous solution of p-phenylaminobenzenediazonium sulphate, phloroglucide, dimethylformamide, citric acid, and thiourea. A base coated with an aqueous sodium hydroxide solution of 4-benzoylamino- 2 : 5 - dimethoxybenzenediazosulphonate and phloroglucide monomethyl ether may be exposed under a negative, using ultra-violet light, and developed with ammonia gas to give a positive.
