Abstract
638,046. Head rests ; cushions. HOLTON, F. C. June 2, 1948, No. 14898. [Classes 52 (ii) and 52 (iv)] A head rest, pillow, &c. for supporting the head above a surface so as to permit the passage of air beneath the head comprises a skeleton structure 1 having side frames consisting of fore and aft uprights 3, 4 and a top connecting limb 2 the side frames being interconnected by one or more integral cross members 5, 6 located inwardly of the front or rear of the head rest. Upon the side frames is mounted an open weave fabric 9 and in some medical cases a further fabric 12 to support a receptacle 13 is provided below the fabric 9 which in that case can incorporate a mesh portion 14. The side frames are adjustable as to their distance apart by means of sleeves such as 8 connecting adjustably divided ends of the transverse members 5, 6. Similar means may be provided for the upright limbs 4 to vary the height of part of the head rest. The wire of the structure may be encased in a plastic &c. and the top limb 2 is preferably undulated as at 10. Various means of adjustment by means of sleeves such as 8 are described.
