637,840. Aircraft controls. AVIATION WORKS, NATIONAL CORPORATION, and SLECHTA, J. Dec. 18, 1947, No. 33448. Convention date, Nov. 15, 1946. [Class 4] A pilot's control member 9 for operating the ailerons and elevator of an aircraft comprises two members 1, 4, which are connected to the elevator control-rod 8 and aileron control-rod 7, respectively, and each of which is arranged to move in the fore-and-aft direction. For operation of the elevator, the control member 9 is rotated about pivots 2, and for aileron operation is rotated about perpendicularly disposed pivots 12. Transverse movement of the member 9 is converted into fore-and-aft movement of the lever 4 by a member 14, whose upper end engages a ball-member 13 in the tube 9, and whose lower end is pivotally connected to the lever 4 on an axis which is inclined to that of the pivots 5 by which the lever 4 is connected to the member 1, Fig. 3. In the neutral position of the control member, the point of connection of the lever 4 and link 7 passes through the axis of the pivots 2. Fig. 1 shows an arrangement for dual controls, the handles 17, 18 being carried by an outer tube 10 connected to the inner tube 9 by pivots 12, 21, 20, 22 arranged at the corners of a parallelogram.
