Abstract

637,779. Hockey sticks. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd., VAUGHAN, G., and PETERS, H. June 4, 1948, No. 15060. [Class 132 (ii)] A hockey stick shaft comprises a central portion 1 of willow formed with opposite parallel faces to which are secured one or more composite layers each comprising a lamina of rubber 2 and a lamina 3 of birch, ash or hickory ; the wood and rubber being alternately arranged. The handle part (Fig. 3) has a lamina 4 of rubber secured to the shaft and a lamina 5 of obeche secured to the rubber layer 4. The shaft is turned off to the contour 10 (Fig. 4) and the handle to the contour 9 (Fig. 3). The shaft is spliced to the head with the planes of the laminµ parallel to the striking face and the splice is bound. In the part of the shaft adjacent the splice the rubber laminae are replaced by laminµ of ash, birch or hickory. In a modification, additional laminµ of rubber and birch &c. are secured to the laminµ 3. The willow portion 1 may be solid or laminated and the whole shaft may be spirally bound.
