Abstract

562,028. Laminated materials. AEROLECTRIC MOULDINGS, Ltd., and GONDA, D. Oct. 16, 1942, No. 14544. [Classes 145 (i) and 145 (ii)] [Also in Groups VIII, X and XXV] A structural unit 1 comprises fibrous laminated sheets 2, 3, e.g. of paper, containing thermosetting resin, e.g. phenol formaldehyde resin spaced apart by one or more separating members 4 containing thermo-setting resin.so as to form one or more hollows 5, one or more of which are wholly or partly filled with a filling of wood, e.g. 6, 7, 8, prior to the application of heat and pressure to cure the resin and bond all the parts together, whereby the ordinary methods of carpentry may be applied in assembling such units together. The unit may be cut up to provide elements comprising wood fillings enclosed on some or all sides by the resin impregnated material and a number of methods of uniting such elements are exemplified. Fig. 3 shows two elements with wood fillings 7, 8 in open-sided end cavities 5a glued together, Fig. 5, with two such elements united by dowel pins 12, others by means of longitudinal tongues, e.g. 15, Fig. 7, lap and screwed joint 18, Fig. 10, and similar joints with the elements arranged at right angles. Fig. 17 shows a door 33 formed of such a unit, and a door frame built up of elements such as 41 made. up of divided parts of such units whilst Fig. 19 shows a wall comprised of a unit 1 retained by two such divided parts 10.
