Abstract
636,408. Radiolocation. SCOPHONY, Ltd., and WIKKENHAUSER, G. June 16, 1947, No. 15828. [Class 40 (vii)] In an arrangement for periodically removing the trace on a P.P.I, device of the persistent image type without interfering with the normal routine operation of the indicator two P.P.I, devices, fed from a common source of radar signals, are adapted such that the screen of either can be projected upon a projection screen. Corresponding indications on the two indicators are projected at substantially the same points on the projection screen and means are provided for wiping-off the image from that one of the devices not being projected. In the embodiment shown two tubes 10 and 10<1> of the dark-trace type are arranged so that their screens 16 and 16<1> may be projected diascopically by means of lamps 20 and 20<1> respectively, mirror 18 and lens, 21 on to the screen 22. The tube to be projected is selected by the mirror 18 which is capable of rotation through 90 degrees to the position shown dotted. This movement is preferably coupled to the switch 11 which feeds the radar signals from source 23 to the tube in use and also applies energy from 17 to the heating element of the screen not in use to wipe off a picture previously formed on that screen. Other means may be utilized for wiping-off, e.g. light of a particular wavelength, or a stream of hot air. The switch 11 may have additional contacts and brushes to switch the focussing and deflecting supplies to the tubes. Specifications 513,776 and 524,230 are referred to.
