Abstract
672,661. Optical projection apparatus. PHILCO PRODUCTS, Inc. June 3, 1946 [June 16, 1945], No. 16789/46. Class 97 (i). The apparatus comprises an image-producing device (e.g. a cathode-ray tube) disposed in the path of projection and causing masking of the aperture of the projection apparatus, means including a cylindrical element for reproducing the image, said element tending to accentuate variations in overall brightness of the image, as viewed from different positions in a viewing plane, caused by variation of aperture area in the direction of the axis of the element and stop means disposed in the path of projection and comprising non-transmissive elements shaped and dimensioned, according to the aforesaid masking, to render the width of the aperture substantially constant in the direction of the axis of the cylindrical element, whereby substantially to eliminate said variations. In one form, the apparatus comprises a cathode-ray tube T, the image on the face t of which is directed by a spherical mirror M through a plate C correcting for the spherical aberrations of mirror M on to a cylindrical screen S, disposed with its axis horizontal, which screen may be of the type disclosed in Specification 6077/48 (as open to inspection under Sect. 91). Between the mirror M and the screen S is located the stop, which comprises opaque members S<SP>1</SP> and S<SP>2</SP> that may be painted on the correcting plate C.
