Abstract
620,519. Radiolocation. DODDS, J. M., and METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELEC. TRICAL CO., Ltd. Nov. 5, 1946, No. 32858. [Class 40 (vii)] In a radar equipment mounted on a moving carrier such as a ship, and employing a cathoderay tube with along persistance screen to produce a display such as a plan position indicator indicating bearings relative to the axis of the ship and subject to blurring when the ship changes course, the display is first connected electrically in accordance with the compass bearing to produce a stationary " true north " display and then viewed or projected through a prism or mirror system rotated in accordance with the compass bearing, whereby a "relative " display is obtained. The " true north " display on cathode-ray tube screen 7 is projected on to a second fluorescent screen 8 by lenses, not shown, and "inverting " prism 2 mounted in a holder 6 rotated by gearing 10, 11 controlled by means 9 operated from the compass. A mirror system may replace the prism, Fig. 2 (not shown). A chart or scale may be projected on to screen 8 simultaneously with the radar display.
