Abstract
636,197. Supporting cables. SANDBERG, S., and LINDBLOM, K. J. Jan. 25, 1947, No. 2395. [Class 36] A support for a conductor comprises a supporting member 4 having a curved surface, the length and curvature thereof being such as to cause the conductor 5 to follow a smooth curve between its two inflection points, the smallest radius of curvature of said curve corresponding to a bending stress in the conductor of the order of one half or less of the tensile stress therein. The support 4 is formed with a stiffening rib 7 and a groove, which may be provided with a lining 11, for receiving the cable. A clamping member 6 is provided which may be shorter than or substantially the same length as, the support 4, the two members being held together by U-bolts 9. The ends of the members 4, 6 are flared as shown at 12 to damp vibrations in the conductor. Still further damping may be effected by inserting rubber wedges in the spaces 12. The support may be suspended by means of the member 8 from a suspension insulator, or, in the case of smaller conductors, may be provided in the top of a pin-type insulator.
