Abstract

635,930. Cycle saddles. TROXEL MANUFACTURING CO. Aug. 8, 1947, No. 22145. Convention date, May 15, 1941. [Class 136 (iii)] A cycle saddle comprises a sheet metal plate 1 having a depressed central floor portion 2 with upwardly extending bounding walls 3 and a skirt 4 which extends below the level of the floor, means being provided for securing the marginal portions of a seat cushioning element 5 to the metal plate 1. The seat cushioning element 5 comprises a sheet metal stamping 5<SP>1</SP> having a leather cover 7 superposed over a layer of hair or other cushioning material 6. The cover 7 is folded over and glued to the periphery of the frame 51 as shown at 8. The frame 51 is formed with depressions 10 having perforations 91 aligned with perforations 41 formed in the floor .portion 2 of the stamping 1. The heads of bolts 9 lie within the depressions 10 and the bolts are secured in the perforations by deforming portions of the bolt shanks to provide retaining lugs I I.. Washers 12 and nuts 13 clamp the cushion element 5 to the floor part 2 of the stamping 1. A compression and tension spring 14 is secured to the saddle by clips 15 interposed between the washers 12 and the floor part 2.
