Abstract
507,210. Securing upholstery to seats. SLEIGH, H. L., CHESTON, A. S., and BOOTH; J. H. Dec. 8, 1937, No. 34027. [Class 52 (iv)] In a seat of the kind including a framework on which is mounted a resilient supporting surface provided with a covering 15, Fig. 1, the latter includes a skirt portion 16 the lower edge of which is inturned and bent upwardly on the interior of a member 17 of the frame, and pins or projections are provided on the member 17 to pierce or pass through openings in the skirt, the pins being bent over to retain, or provided with means for retaining the covering material. The seat, for example, comprises a frame 10, 11, a resilient surface 12 supported by springs 13, and upholstery 14. The seat cover 15 of leather or other material has a skirt 16 which is secured to a metal strip 17 on the frame by means of tongues 18, Fig. 2, pressed up from the strip, which are forced through the turned up edge of the skirt and pressed down. The covering of the seat back is similarly secured. In a modified construction, pointed pins 26, Fig. 4, are secured to the frame member 10, and the skirt is extended downwardly over a shaping member 29 of cardboard or the like and then upwardly, and its edge forced over the pins. A wire is then threaded through holes 32 in the pins, or a perforated strip placed over the pins, and the latter riveted over.
