Abstract

635,560. Aerating liquids. POTTER, E. (Lee, F.) Oct. 10, 1946, No. 30315. [Class 14(i)] [Also in Group II] An apparatus for cooling and aerating milk and other beverages by carbon dioxide comprises a gas tight liquid container within which is contained an evaporation chamber for carbon dioxide ice having gas outlet openings, a' cooling chamber and a mechanical device for stirring the liquid. A liquid container 3 in an outer jacket 4 packed with insulating material 6 is fitted with a gas tight cover plate 7 secured thereon by swing bolts 10. An outlet pipe 12 is connected to a discharge control valve 13 leading to a dispensing nozzle 14. A cylindrical cooling chamber 15 filled with ice or other coolant and fitted with a lid 17 depends from the cover plate 7. An evaporation chamber comprises an inner cylinder 20 containing solid carbon dioxide and screwed into an outer cylinder 19 having a plurality of apertures for the escape of carbon dioxide gas through the clearance between the cylinders 19 and 20. The cylinder 19 has an enlarged head 21 which is screwed into the cover plate 7. A manually operable stirring device comprises a vertical shaft 27 rotatable in a bush 28 which is screwed into the cover plate 7. A stirring unit comprises a series of blades 35 equidistantly spaced and secured at their upper and lower ends to discoid plates 36 and 37, the lower end of the shaft 27 being secured to the plate 36. The blades may be vertical or inclined so as to move the liquid downwardly.
