Abstract
318,851. Morton, J. W., and Morton, J. June 8, 1928. Mixing under pressure in closed containers.- A process for whipping liquid and semi-liquid substances used in making confectionery so as to make a foam consists in mixing them in a closed container to which air is supplied under pressure, the pressure being released before discharging the mixture. The process may be carried out in the apparatus shown in which beaters rotate about a horizontal axis in a container which can be tilted for discharge and is furnished with an air-tight cover, the pressure air being supplied through the trunnions. The stirrers 12 are carried in a detachable frame 13 in the container 5 and are driven through a detachable coupling 23 from a shaft 22. On the release of the coupling the container can be swung about its trunnions 6, 16 by a handle 14. Pressure air is supplied from a. cylinder 36 through a pipe 38 the cylinder being charged from a compressor driven from the same source as the shaft 22. The cover 42 is provided with a packing ring 43 and with studs 44 engaging in hollow bosses 45 and held therein by a locking-ring 46. The latter is interconnected with a cock which must he operated to release the pressure before the locking-ring is operated. In another form the mixing is effected by a beater having planetary motion in a container which is raised into engagement with a fixed cover to form an air-tight joint.
