Abstract
635,436. Induction heating. DISTILLATION PRODUCTS, Inc. April 13, 1948, No. 10173. Convention date, June 13, 1947. [Class 39 (iii)] A method of vacuum distillation comprises rotating a vapourizing surface 10 of electrically conductive material in a magnetic field and utilising the eddy currents generated in the vapourizing surface to raise the temperature to distillation point. The magnets 12 may be of U-shape and may be adjustable in respect of their proximity to the rotary surface 10 so as to control the heating effect or alternatively the magnets may be electromagnets and the current passing through them may be vertical to control the degree of heating. Various alternative arrangements are described whereby the surface 10 may be moved relative to fixed magnets and varied in shape to suit various requirements. Fig. 4 shows a composite rotor of magnetic material 39 and aluminium or copper 40.
