635,429. Artificial limbs. HANGER & CO., Ltd., J. E., and BROWN, P. April 8, 1948, No. 9896. [Class 81 (ii)] In an artificial leg a ligament for checking the movement of the pivoted thigh and shin members is adjusted by means of a resilient eccentric ring mounted on a tapered boss secured to one of the leg members and housed within an opening formed in the ligament. As shown, the pivoted members a, b of the leg are connected together by the ligament d, provided with two loops of which the upper one d<SP>1</SP> is removably secured to the thigh member a and the lower one d<SP>2</SP> is secured to the shin member b by means of an eccentric rubber ring g having a hexagonal bore and adapted to be mounted on the tapered boss h, the ring being secured in its selected position by the nut k. Instead of flat hexagonal faces the ring may be formed with a plurality of holes of which any one may be selectively engaged by a pin on the boss h. According to the Provisional Specification the invention also relates to artificial arms or other limbs.
