Abstract

635,173. Respirators. ANGLO-IRANIAN OIL CO., and MACLEAN, T. T. Nov. 21, 1947, No. 30953. [Class 81(ii)] A protective hood has a filter inlet in the lower part of the face mask and an air inlet in the crown of the hood, so that the passage of air is in an upward direction across the face of the wearer. It also has an inner frame for supporting the crown of the hood on the wearer's head. In the form described a metal crown 2 is supported on the head by a frame member 7 and carries a skirt 5 of cotton fabric impregnated with polyvinyl chloride. At the front there is a rigid facepiece 8 provided with a window 3 of cellulose acetate and having a stepped portion 13 with holes 15 allowing air to pass upwards through a charcoal or other filter 16. The air passes upwards in front of the face of the wearer, the flow being induced by the warmth of the face, and passes out through a hole 21, in the crown, and a cowl 22.
