Abstract
634,913. Severing lace webs. GAUNT, J. G. (Spalding, J.). April 1, 1944, No. 6094. [Classes 31 (i) and 74 (i)] [Also in Group XI] A lace web comprising a plurality of strips connected together at adjacent edges by loops of a transversely extending thread of material different from that of the body of the lace and having a low tensile strength when heated is treated by subjecting the transversely extending thread to tension and heat, so as to separate the lace strips. Lace strips A, Fig. 18, may be connected by rover threads E, Fig. 2, held in loops in the edges of the strips by draw threads D and auxiliary threads F. When the lace web is passed towards spaced stationary heating elements 84, the rover threads E, which may be of cellulose acetate, polyvinyl chloride/ acetate mixtures, nylon, or other materials having low tensile strength at elevated temperatures, are severed, the action of the elements 84 being assisted by spreading plates 85 arranged to impose a tension on the rover threads E. Many modifications of heating elements are described (see Group XI). Specification 264,833, [Class 74 (i)], is referred to.
