Abstract

Porous sheet material comprises particles of waste rubber crumb and fibres and strands of fibrous material compounded with a rubber latex mix and frothed by mechanical or chemical means to form a structure in which the particles of rubber crumb separate at least some of the fibres and strands causing cavities in the structure, spread, for example, on hessian, the mixture being then dried. The rubber crumb may be obtained by grinding waste rubber such as debeaded tyres. All types of textile fibres and strands may be used, whether of animal, vegetable or mineral origin. Specified fibres are cotton and asbestos. The textile component may be obtained by passing waste hessian through a disintegrating machine.ALSO:Porous sheet material comprises particles of waste rubber crumb and fibres and strands of fibrous material compounded with a rubber latex mix and frothed by mechanical or chemical means to form a structure in which the particles or rubber crumb separate at least some of the fibres and strands causing cavities in the structure. The sheet material may be made by spreading out a mixture as above to form a layer, for example, on hessian, the mixture being then dried. The rubber crumb may be obtained by grinding waste rubber such as debeaded tyres. All types of textile fibres and strands may be used, whether of animal, vegetable or mineral origin. Specified fibres are cotton and asbestos. The textile component may be obtained by passing waste hessian through a disintegrating machine.
