Abstract

634,906. Furniture frames and joints. ELEY, A. W. Dec. 15, 1947, No. 33068. [Class 52 (ii)] In metal furniture comprising a plate part and a frame part of curved cross-section the two parts are connected by a joint comprising a protuberance formed on one part about a hole therein fitting into a mating recess on the other part also about a hole therein, the two parts being drawn together by a securing bolt &c. As shown, the tubular members 16, 17 of the end frames are provided with U-shaped lugs 3 the limbs 4 of which are provided with apertured pressed-out recesses 6. The plates 2 are provided at their edges with turned-in spaced flanges 7 for strengthening purposes and adapted to pass closely over the lugs 3. Protuberances 11 are pressed out of the plate 2 and flanges 7 and provided with apertures the protuberances being adapted to seat in the recesses 6. Countersunk screws 12 are provided for securing the parts together. The flanges 7 are cut to a curvature to allow the plate 2 to extend to the top of the tubular members 16, 17.
